Stabilization of repositioned maxillary segments following Le Fort I osteotomy has usually required immobilization of the jaws with intermaxiallary fixation. A technique is presented which utilizes small bone plates for stabilization, and results from 11 patients with a mean follow-up of two years one month are discussed. Initial results indicate good stability with the procedure and relapse potential is less then that seen in patients undergoing similar surgery where wire osteosynthesis and intermaxillary fixation are used.
